The Department of Teacher Education under School of Education (formerly the Centre for Education) was founded in 2013 with the introduction of Four Year Integrated B.A.B.Ed. and Four-Year Integrated B.Sc.B.Ed. Programmes. In addition, to meet the needs of quality teacher educators and scholars in the field of Education, the M.Ed. and Ph.D. Programmes were started in the year 2017. The department has highly skilled and well qualified faculty members with varied academic backgrounds and experience to provide the students with a world-class learning experience. The department has a high-tech MOOC Studio and a resourceful Computer-cum-Language Lab to meet all kinds of demands of digitalized teaching learning process. The Science Lab, Social Science Lab, Curriculum Lab, Psychology Lab, and Arts Lab are well equipped. In addition to these high-standard infrastructural facilities an Integrated Resource Centre containing a number of policy documents, reports of researches, academic studies, field surveys, seminars, workshops, training programmes, educational data, teachers' handbooks, journals, educational films, documentaries, and other digital tools is an important asset of the department. Through the Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) Scheme of MoE, Govt. of India and the National Resource Center (NRC), MoE, Govt. of India, the department have been rendering exclusive services to the entire teaching and academic leadership community of the country through multidimensional and highly qualitative in-service training programmes and significantly productive workshops. The NRC of the department has successfully conducted 3 MOOCs for Teacher Educators through SWAYAM platform under ARPIT scheme. In continuation of these efforts, with the help of quality initiatives such as academic programmes, comprehensive research, field studies, creative ventures, and other educational activities, the department aspires to grow as a Centre of Excellence for Teacher Education and to set high standard benchmarks at the regional, national & international levels through committed, sincere and highly potential faculty members and dynamic academic leadership.

Board of Studies (BoS)

BoS is a statutory body for each department/centre, primarily responsible for syllabus design and regular update. As described in the Ordinance section 25.10,

The functions of the Board of Studies shall be:-

  • To recommend to the School Board, courses of studies offered by the Department/Centre and continue updating syllabus;
  • To take all steps in accordance with the provisions of the Regulations about teaching and evaluation of various courses/programmes of the Department/Centre;
  • To recommend to the School Board measures for the improvement of teaching and research in the Department/Centre;
  • To constitute panels of experts to be considered for appointment as Examiners, Board of Examiners for various courses/academic programmes and M.Phil./Ph.D. thesis representing various specializations of Departments/Centres; and
  • To perform such other functions as may be assigned to it by the School Board, the Academic Council, the Executive Council and the Vice-Chancellor.

Department Committee (DC)

As enshrined in the Ordinace-26, the Department/Centre Committee (DC/CC) shall consist of the Head of the Department/Centre, as Chairperson ex-officio, and all faculty members of the Department/Centre.

26.2 The Department/Centre Committee shall have the following functions, namely–

  • To make proposals to the Board of Studies on academic programmes concerning teaching and research, and the creation, specialization and abolition of teaching posts;
  • To propose schemes for the maintenance and improvement of the standards of various programmes of study and research of the Department/Centre;
  • To apportion the teaching and co-curricular work of the Department/Centre among the teachers thereof and monitor the proper execution thereof;
  • To consider and decide on the assignment and utilisation of the space, equipment and other assets of the Department/Centre and other matters of general and academic interest of the Department/Centre;
  • To consider and recommend perspectives and major thrust areas for research and to propose research projects to be taken up by the members of the Department/Centre, individually/collectively;
  • To review and apprise the SRC/URC with the current status of research in Department/Centre;
  • To suggest to SRC/URC norms related to qualifications and research experience of a faculty to be recognized as a research degree supervisor and to constitute Department/Centre Research Degree Committee (DRC/CRC);
  • To suggest to University Admission, Teaching and Evaluation Committee (UATEC) on any issue related to admission, teaching, continuous evaluation in courses and students’ assessment of courses, offered by the Department/Centre to improve quality of education.
  • To constitute such Committee(s) comprising members of the Department/Centre, and if necessary external experts, for framing and implementation of rules and regulations related to admission, teaching, continuous evaluation, maintenance of students’ records including alumni affairs as well as promotion of research and development; and
  • To perform such other functions as may be assigned by the Ordinances or Regulations, or by the Vice- Chancellor/Dean/School Board from time to time.

Department Research Degree Committee (DRDC)

Departmental/Centre Research Degree Committee (DRDC/CRDC) deal with all matters connected with the Ph.D. Programme of the Department and report the matter to the University Research Degree Committee (URDC), as per University Ordinance-33. It consists of the Head of Department/Centre as Chairman and other faculties in the department.

Functions of DRDC/CRDC are as follows:

  • Allotment of Supervisor, Co-Supervisor, recording reasons for not admitting a candidate.
  • Recommendation for extension of time for submission of thesis
  • Recommendation to peruse a part of research outside the University
  • Approval of the Course Work
  • Assessment and Grading in Course Work
  • Monitoring the research progress of the candidate
  • Approval of Research plan proposal/language
  • Sanction of duty leave to the Ph.D. candidate
  • Assessment of Ph.D. work through pre-submission seminar
  • Maintaining the record of research paper publications of the candidate
  • 11 Recommendation of panel of experts for thesis evaluation
  • Assessment of revised thesis for satisfactory compliance, if any
  • Arrangement of Viva-voce in the absence of the supervisor
  • Recommendation to waive the Viva-voce

Research Advisory Committee (RAC)

A Research Advisory Committee (RAC) is constituted for every research scholar admitted in PhD programme. The Committee would guide the research scholar to develop the study design and methodology of research and to To periodically review and assist in the progress of the research work of the research scholar. The committee shall have also have power to recommend the co-supervisor and cancellation of registration

Vision

  • The development of a comprehensive department of teacher education to meet the demands of a learner-centred, inclusive, gender-sensitive, environment-conscious, human values-centred, forward-looking, and enriched with cultural heritage school and teacher education system in the 21st century.
  • To develop an R&D centre to support educational research in focus areas, as well as excellent resource material for effective teaching/learning/evaluation/academic administration for quality education at all levels around the globe is to be established.
  • To develop an Innovative and excellence centre of research for incubating ideas, as well as do innovations in scientific, collaborative, and compassionate settings to generate instruments for the ultimate objective of education: producing a self-reliant and a 'Human Being,' the ultimate goal of education.

  • Creating and implementing various types of teacher education programmes that include a wide range of specialist subjects and educational aspects.
  • Using the most recent trends in teaching, learning, assessment, and academic administration to develop effective ways and means of producing outstanding teachers, teacher educators, academic administrators, and innovators in light of deep rooted cultural heritage.
  • Finding new and better approaches to meet the changing needs of school education and teacher education in order to respect the principles entrenched in the Indian Constitution.
  • Exploring thrust areas, establishing and ensuring quality parameters for conducting research and developing resource material for teacher education and education at all levels.
  • Fostering and nurturing a collaborative atmosphere for the discovery, incubation, and implementation of innovative ideas in teaching, learning, assessment, and academic administration in order to develop new methods and instruments for providing purposeful, useful, and high-quality education to all.
  • Developing a working culture by combining the finest efforts of learners, researchers, instructors, and staff to reach new heights one by one.
    The Four Year Integrated B.A.B.Ed. Programme (Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education) is a dual degree eight-semester full-time programme with vertical mobility to M.A. and/or M.Ed. levels. This is a cutting-edge teacher education programme recognized by NCTE which attracts the committed young talented minds towards the teaching profession and prepares secondary school teachers for teaching Arts subjects. It offers studies in Economics, English, Hindi, History and Political Science along with that of Education as a discipline in an integrated manner. A rigorous school internship programme and practical exposure in fine arts, performing arts, physical education, work experience, health education, and community service provides a strong training in pedagogy, learning and assessment skills along with enhancement of communication and life skills.
  • Objectives of the Programme:
    1. To prepare knowledgeable graduates in different arts stream subjects along with an insight into the pedagogy of the subjects of study.
    2. To prepare skilled, sensitive and responsive teachers for teaching Arts subjects at secondary level of education.
    3. To develop understanding of principles and theories of education founded in Philosophy, Sociology, Psychology and Information Communication Technology
    4. To enable to conceptualize the principles and theories of teaching, learning and evaluation in respect of teaching of Arts subjects.
    5. To develop the pedagogical and assessment skills for teaching Arts subjects.
    6. To enhance communication skills along with life and soft skills to enable for quality teaching.
    7. To develop understanding of the principles and theories of liberal subjects like Economics or Political Science.
    8. To develop skills of applying the principles and theories of liberal subjects like Economics or Political Science in real situations.
    9. To make realize the significance of action research and to prepare to undertake action research to solve problems in the work area.
    10. To enhance the skills of acquiring knowledge and skills for life-long learning in the field of study.
    11. To enable to understand the education system of Bharat in global context.

  • 10+2 or equivalent examination in any stream from any recognized Board/University with at least 50% marks for General/OBC and 45% marks for SC/ST/PWD candidate.

    M.Ed. is a two year postgraduate professional degree programme for advanced studies in the field of Teacher Education which aims at preparing quality teacher educators and other educational professionals including educational policy analysts, planners, experts etc. The programme offers a comprehensive overview of ‘Education’ embedded in the foundational disciplines of Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology; and, detailed study of chosen specialized areas of interest. It also includes advance components of pedagogy in a subject of parent discipline of prospective teacher educator. Since M.Ed. is also a degree leading to research in education, the course has a strong research component which includes dissertation writing. The completion of programme shall lead to M.Ed. degree with different specializations.
  • Objectives of the Programme:
    1. To prepare skilled, sensitive and responsive teacher educators, educational administrators and other professionals in the field of education.
    2. To develop in-depth understanding of principles and theories of education founded in Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology.

    6. To develop communication skills for creative writing, preparing research reports, and other related documents and presentations in oral/written and in physical/virtual form.
    7. To make aware of the opportunities and venues for conducting educational research and to develop the skills to acquire them for the purpose.
    8. To generate insight into the education system of India and to update with the latest trends and practices in the field of education across the globe.

    Ph.D. in Education is a doctoral degree Programme which offers in-depth understanding of research procedure and development of various skills required to conduct different types of research in the field of education. The Programme is started with the conduction of a one semester Course Work which helps the prospective researchers to conceptualize the basics of educational research along with the knowledge and ways to apply various advanced tools and techniques of reviewing related literature, arranging resources, acquiring and analysing data, drawing inferences, and presenting them in a systematic manner. The completion of the Programme lies on the successful presentation of the research work in the form of a thesis and the research papers published.
  • Objectives of the Programme:
    1. To prepare skilled, sensitive and responsive researchers in the field of education.
    2. To generate insight and understanding of the significance of carrying fundamental and applied research in the field of education.
    3. To make aware and to sensitize with the thrust areas of research in the field of education.
    4. To enhance the skills of acquiring in-depth knowledge and expertise, and for life-long learning in the area of interest and research.
