Weekly Celebration of 3rd Anniversary of NEP 2020, 24th – 28th July 2023

The Department of Teacher Education (DTE), Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), Gaya is organising one week program on 3rd anniversary of National Education Policy 2020 from 24th to 28th July 2023.

Day 1 (24th July, 2023)       

On 24th July, the inaugural session of the program was started with the lightening of the lamp and the welcome address by Dean, School of Education Professor Ravikant. On this occasion, he said that NEP 2020 in not mere a document of some pages it is the planning to decide the direction and extent of country’s development.

 
Thereafter, Programme coordinator Dr. Tarun Kumar Tyagi briefly introduced the program and said that the objective of the program is to develop understanding about NEP2020 and its implementation among the stakeholders. Further, he said on this occasion department is going to organise Quiz and poster competitions for university students. Besides these a series of lectures will be conducted and Prof. Venkatessh, IQAC Coordinator, Prof Pawan Mishra, Dean Students Welfare and Prof. Rati kant Kumbhar Head Department of Economics will be the resource persons.

 
Prof. Brajesh Kumar, Dean, School of Management was the keynote speaker of the inaugural session. He shared his insights on ‘Research in Higher Education’. He said that for securing the place in world ranking index of higher education we need to do the quality research. NEP 2020 focuses on quality research and that’s why many praiseworthy initiatives are taken in this direction ‘Performance based Research funding is one of them. Further he said for implementing the policy effectively, it is a pressing need to create a research cell and appoint a Dean of research at university level to improve the quality of researches done at University level.

 
Thereafter, Dr Ravindra Kumar, Assistant Professor Department of Teacher Education, CUSB delivered a lecture on ICT in Education: NEP 2020 and discussed about various initiatives of GOI i.e. E-PG Pathshala, DIKSHA, SWAYAM etc.

 
Then, Dr. Nrapendra Vir Singh Assistant Professor Department of Teacher Education, shared his viwes on’ Teacher Education in the light of NEP 2020’. He said that teachers are the architects of the nation that’s why NEP 2020 focuses on teacher education. Many commendable initiatives has been taken to revamp the teacher education. These are to establish the multidisciplinary institutions. Implementation of ITEP across the country etc.

 
The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks given by Lt. Dr. Pragya Gupta. The event was moderated by Swati Gupta, Assistant professor, DTE, on this Occasion Prof. Kiran Kumari, Prof. Vijay Sharma, Dr. Mitanjali, Dr Rinki, Dr. Kishore, Dr. Sandeep and the students of the University were present

Day 2 (25th July, 2023)   

The second day of the program, 25th July 2023 began with the lecture series in the morning session followed by a quiz competition in the post-lunch session. In the lecture series of NEP 2020, the welcome address was delivered by Prof. Venkatesh Singh, IQAC Coordinator, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya. He shared his views on ‘NEP 2020: Innovation and research in higher education institutions’ in which he discussed different aspects of innovation in research and the importance of discipline and hard work in academia. He also emphasized proper training and practical experience as important components to excel in the field of research and academia. He ended his lecture by highlighting the importance of critical thinking in everyday life as well as in research.

Thereafter, the second resource person Dr. Kishor Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education, CUSB was escorted by the program co-coordinator and his topic of deliberation was school complex. He threw light on the various components of the school complex in respect of NEP 2020. He further discussed how school complexes shall work for the betterment of schools and how they resolve the issues and challenges by proper monitoring and providing human and physical resources as support.

Thereafter, Dr.Tarun Kumar Tyagi, Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education, CUSB delivered his lecture on pedagogical practices and innovative assessment techniques. He emphasizes the key points to fostering creativity through innovative pedagogical practices. He also threw light on the need for a major shift from rote learning to conceptual understanding and experiential learning, learning from nature, and collaborative learning as envisioned in NEP 2020. 

 

 

Day 3 (26th, 2023)   

 

The third day of the program, 26th July 2023 began with the lecture series in the morning session followed by Quiz Competition on NEP 2020 Ki Samajh and Poster Competition on ‘Visualizing Schools in the light of NEP 2020’.

In the lecture series of NEP 2020, the welcome address was delivered by keynote speaker Prof. Rathi Kant Kumbhar, Head, Department of Economics, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya. He enriches the session with his outstanding deliberation on the topic of social dimension in NEP 2020 where he highlighted the importance of the Indian value system considering NEP 2020. He also threw light on the various distribution question that is resource, fund, and social economic disadvantage group and how it affects sustainable growth.  He, therefore, highlighted the importance of Research and Development for the sustainable growth of any nation. For which he highlighted the importance of IDEAS rather than physical resources.

Thereafter, the second resource person Dr. (Lt.) Pragya Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education, CUSB delivered his lecture on inclusive and equitable education. She started her talk by highlighting the historical background of inclusive education in India. Then she discussed how the four pillars of NEP 2020 ‘access, equity, quality, and affordability & accountability’ of education are related to inclusion including equity in respect. She further discussed how discrimination for social economic disadvantaged groups hinders the upliftment of the nation and what provisions need to be taken care of to include these groups in the education system to ensure inclusion and equity at all levels of education.

Then, the third resource person was Dr. Md. Mozammil Hassan, Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education, CUSB shared his insights on establishing a culture of research & NEP 2020.  He highlighted the need and thrust area of research in India where he threw light on the societal challenges that need to address for research to promote utility-based research culture in the nation. He emphasis to develop ‘Shodh Sanskar’ among students at School level. He also discussed developing a research mindset to become a leading knowledge society as envisioned in NEP 2020.

Day 4 (27th, 2023)   

The fourth day of the programme started with the Programme coordinator Dr. Tarun kumar Tyagi, Assistant Professor DTE, welcoming the guests, resource persons and the audiences. Prof Pawan Mishra, Dean Students Welfare, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya, Prof. Brajesh Kumar, Dean, School of Management along with other faculty members of the department of Education were present for the event. Prof. Pawan Kumar Mishra, Dean Students Welfare, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya was the keynote speaker of the session. He shared his insights on ‘Role of NEP 2020 in promoting constitutional values’. He started his speech by sharing his thoughts on NEP 2020. He said that the NEP 2020 is a reflection of the last 70 years in the field of education and it has transformed the education system. Even though NEP 2020 has not been implemented in legal and medical education, Prof. Mishra feels there is an immediate need to include both the disciplines within its arena. Further he spoke about the constitution being the supreme authority in our country and that nothing should be done beyond its framework. Equity and inclusiveness, the fundamental objectives of NEP 2020 are in reality  a reflection of constitutional values in modern education system. NEP 2020 just like the constitution ensure that equality of opportunity and employment is provide to the citizens of our country. Prof. Mishra strongly believes that the NEP 2020 facilitates the learners to understand and enjoy the five liberties that the Preamble of our constitution bestows on the citizens of our country namely,- liberty of expression, liberty of belief, liberty of thought and liberty of worship. Prof. Mishra also informed the house about the formation of NEP 2020 task force in CUSB under the chairmanship of Prof. Kaushal Kishore which framed the policy paper on NEP 2020 and worked on its implementation. Thereafter, Dr. Mitanjali Sahoo, Assistant Professor, DTE, CUSB delivered a lecture on ‘Curricular reforms in School education in the light of NEP 2020’. She highlighted on reorienting and revamping the curriculum at different stages of school education as mentioned by NEP 2020 – 5+3+3+4 education system. NEP 2020 aims at the holistic development of the learners with focus on 10 Days of Bagless Period, reducing the Curricular Content to enhance essential learning and emphasis on enhancing critical thinking and computational thinking. Dr. Sahoo also shed light on important areas of NEP 2020 like Experiential learning as a pedagogical practice, flexibility in course choices, focus on multilingualism, support to gifted students and children with special needs, reforms in assessment techniques. She concluded her speech with a discussion of the roadmap for the implementation of curricular reforms in light of NEP 2020. Then, Dr. Rinki, Assistant Professor Department of Teacher Education, shared her views on ‘NEP 2020: Restructuring Higher Education’. She said that restructuring in higher education can be done on three levels- architectural restructuring, administrative restructuring and restructuring of the regulatory bodies. NEP 2020 not only has reduced the categories of institutions but has also provided institutions to freely move from one category to the other. She has also explained the implementation of NEP 2020 in CUSB in regards to the initiatives already taken as well as the future plans of the institution to become MERU ( Multidisciplinary Education and Research University). The session ended with a vote of thanks given by Dr. Sandip Kumar, Assistant professor, DTE. The event was moderated by Programme Co -Coordinator Lt. Dr. Pragya Gupta, Assistant professor, DTE.

Day 5 (28th, 2023)  

As the chief guest of the closing ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kameshwar Singh attended. In his address, Prof. Singh highlighted the importance of National Education Policy. He said that this policy is focused on fulfillment and inclusiveness. This policy attacks Macaulay’s policy and creates a sense of pride in Indian knowledge tradition and Indianness. Now all languages are being treated equally which was not the case earlier. Now we have to leave the western knowledge and pay attention to the Indian knowledge store only then the feeling of inferiority can be removed. He also mentioned the five vows quoted by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. There is a sense of Indianness and duty in the new education policy, so we have to give priority to duties along with our rights. He also appreciated the poster and quiz competition organized by the faculty to ensure participation of the students.

Before the presidential address of the Vice-Chancellor, the teachers and principals from the nearby schools of the university also expressed their views on the National Education Policy. Dr. Rajendra Sharma explained how the establishment of the university is increasing the quality of the surrounding areas and schools. Due to the efforts of the teachers here, students of government schools are passing in examinations like NTSE.
After this, Dr. Diwakar of Middle School Dharamshala said that it is a privilege to live near CUSB as it feels like a family here. He said that the success of NEP 2020 is possible only when school education is linked with university education.


The program started with the university’s kulgeet and the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. In the welcome address, Ravi Kant greeted the Vice Chancellor and teachers from other departments. The participants of the competition held during this week-long event were honored with certificates and prizes. Shrishti Singh (3rd Prize), Anil Kumar (2nd Prize), Anuradha Jamwal (1st Prize) in Quiz (Understanding of NEP) and Pratibha (3rd Prize), Sujata (2nd Prize) and Mukesh Kumar in Poster Competition (1st Prize) was awarded .

At the conclusion of the program, Dr. Tarun Tyagi thanked the Vice Chancellor, all the teachers and students. The stage was moderated by Lt (Dr) Pragya Gupta. Registrar Col. Rajiv Singh, Prof. Pawan Mishra, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. K. Shiv Shankar, Prof. Vijay Sharma, Prof. Brajesh Kumar, Prof. Durg Vijay Singh, Dr. RP Singh, Dr. Ashish Kr. Singh, Prof. Vipin Kumar Singh, Dr.Abodh, Dr.Chandra Prabha Pandey, Dr.Anindia Deb, other teachers and students were present in the programme.
