Panel Discussion on “New Directions in Development Research: Contributions of Banerjee, Duflo and Kremer” at CUSB

The Department of Development Studies of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB)   organized a Panel Discussion on “New Directions in Development Research: Contributions of Banerjee, Duflo and Kremer” on November 15, 2019.  The discussion was organized in the backdrop of awarding Nobel Prize in Economics to Michael Kremer, Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo.

Prof. Sankar Kumar Bhoumik, Dean of the School of Social Sciences elaborately discussed on the new methodology adopted by the Nobel Laureates in alleviating global poverty.  Prof. Krishnan Chalil, Head, Department of Development Studies dealt with the history of poverty alleviation strategies in Indian context and critically assessed the contribution of the nobel winners. While, Prof. Brajesh Kumar, Head of the Department of Commerce and Business Studies reviewed the evolution of the theories of economic development and how far the random control experiment is an addition to the development of the branch of Development Economics. Dr. Aditya Mohanty, Assistant Professor of Development Studies, moderated the discussion.  The presentation was followed by question answer sessions and discussion.

Faculty members and students from various departments of the university took part in the program.  Ms. Prerna, M.A. Development Studies student welcomed the audience and Aditya Mohanty proposed vote of thanks.
