NCERT Research grant to Dr. Tarun Tyagi and Lt. (Dr.) Pragya Gupta for Innovative Practices in Mathematics

For exercising innovative practices in school education, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi has awarded the research grant to Dr. Tarun Kumar Tyagi and Lt (Dr.) Pragya Gupta, Assistant Professor, Dept of Teacher Education, Central University of South Bihar (CUSB). The research proposal of Dr. Tyagi and Lt. (Dr.) Gupta has been selected by the NCERT for ‘Innovative Practices and Experiments in Education for School and Teacher Education Institutions’ (2023). It’s a matter of great pleasure that for the third consecutive time such a proposal has been selected for the Innovative Practices in the field of School Mathematics. Before this, Dr. Tyagi has already been awarded the National Award for Innovative Practices in School Mathematics by NCERT, New Delhi twice for 2021 and 2022 consecutively.

CUSB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh, Registrar Col. Rajiv Kumar Singh, IQAC Coordinator Prof. Venktesh Singh, Prof. Ravi Kant, Dean SoE and Head DTE, Prof. Dharmendra Kumar Singh (FPAC Member) and faculty members of the DTE congratulated the project coordinators and motivated them to do such types of frontline research in the field of school mathematics. CUSB VC Prof. Singh said that this effort is a good initiative not only to develop the higher-order thinking skills in mathematics like mathematical creativity among students through STEAM-based learning bust also a positive effort to connect the university to the nearby villages and community that helps to achieve the objectives of National Education Policy 2020.

Providing details Dr. Tarun Kumar Tyagi said that the title of the project is “Effect of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM)-based Learning on Mathematical Creativity of Middle School Students”. The NCERT invited the project proposals in the month of July of 2023 from teachers and teacher educators working in all recognized teacher education institutions under the scheme ‘Innovative Practices and Experiments in Education for School and Teacher Education institutions. After evaluating/screening in two phases by the expert committee at RIE Bhubaneswar and NCERT New Delhi, this project proposal was shortlisted and recommended to implement at Middle School Fatehpur, at Nepa in Tikari close to the university. Dr. Tyagi said that in the 21st century, every country has a great need for creative potential in every field to maintain its own prosperity and existence across the world. Ergo, scholar’s attention is needed for providing opportunities for students to think out of the box (NEP, 2020) and relate mathematics with real-life settings.
