Guest Lecture Anusandhan National Research Foundation by Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, Secretary, SERB

India holds third position in the world in terms of publication in SCI journals and number of Ph.D. in Science. Our country holds ninth position in terms of quality and seventh position in resident patent filing. These statistics were shared by Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, Secretary, Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Govt. of India during a special lecture organised by Prof. Pradhan Parth Sarthi, the Dean of the School of Earth, Biological and Environmental Sciences, Central University of South Bihar (CUSB). The lecture on the topic “Anusandhan National Research Foundation: A transformational shift in the way research is supported in India” was presided by CUSB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh. 

During the lecture Dr. Gupta stated that the existing number of central, state, private and deemed to be universities is 1088, according to UGC. The women participation in extra mural research has doubled in the last 10 years. However, India’s position in the existing scenarios of annual budget in research and development comes after the USA, UK, China, Germany, Japan, Brazil, France. Dr. Gupta explained how the huge funds will be generated for Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). He said that there is a major challenge to implement the NARF. According to data shared by him, there is a major shift in Research and Development in the last couple of years, especially for women, in India. While concluding the lecture, Dr. Gupta mentioned that there is poor funding to the central and state universities as well as international collaboration are inadequate in the university and poor academia industry relation is seen in the universities. 

Earlier, Dr. Prashant, Organizing Secretary, welcomed the participants and the keynote speaker. Further, Prof. K. N. Singh, CUSB, Vice-Chancellor shared the details about the Anusandhan National Research Foundation Bill 2023 launched by the Government of India. The VC appreciated the Dean of SEBES for taking such an important initiative and arranging this lecture. Along with the members of the organizing committee namely, Dr. Jawaid Ahsan, Dr. Gautam Kumar, Dr. Vijay. Kumar Singh, Dr. Vikal Kumar Singh, and Dr. Somenath Behra, the lecture was attended by the faculty members, researchers and students of the university.
