G20 University Connect Lecture by former diplomat Mr. Achal Malhotra

A special lecture series was organized at Central University of South Bihar (CUSB)) under the “G20 University Connect Lecture Series”. The lecture series was organized jointly by the Office of International Affairs (OIA) and Research and Information System (RIS) for developing countries as a part of India’s Chairmanship of G20. The lecture series was organized under the patronage of CUSB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh by Prof. Rakesh Kumar, Convenor and President of CUSB’s OIA along with the members of OIA. In the welcome address Prof. Rakesh Kumar pointed out that the theme of India’s G20 chairmanship is inclusive, sustainable development, reflecting the collective ethos of “Vasudhev Kutumbakam – One Earth, One Family and One Future”. Dr. Rakesh apprised the audience present in the auditorium about the foreign students studying in CUSB and their role in exchange of ideas, culture and tradition across the country

In the presidential address, Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh welcomed Mr. Achal Malhotra, former diplomat of the Ministry of External Affairs, Ambassador of India to Armenia and Georgia and former Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, present as the chief guest. In his address, VC Prof. K. N. Singh spoke about how India can contribute to global development through its cultural diversity, demography, democracy and ancient history of being the first republic. emphasized on “Act East Policy” by seeing opportunities to connect with South East Asian countries as Gaya is well connected with South East Asian countries.

Keynote speaker Mr. Achal Malhotra delivered a structured speech on the topic “Empowering Youth for Global Progress: G20 Engaging Young Minds”. He said it reflects the commitment of the world’s leading economies to actively involve and amplify the voices of young people in the decision-making processes that impact their lives, their communities, and the global society. He further talked about the origin and inception of the G20 forum that was formed to overcome the global crisis and now seen as a forum which can work together in averting crisis in contemporary times. The key pillars of his talk were climate change, sustainable development, curbing the gap of west and rest in digitalization, democratization of global finance and transition to green energy. He emphasized that transition to green energy is a universal need to extend the longevity of our mother earth. In this G20 presidency it is India’s opportunity to emerge as Voice of South in the G20 forum. At last in the interactive session with moderator Mr. Syed Arslan Ali, Researcher, RIS New Delhi  students asked their several queries regarding micro and small industries, national bank development role in growth of developing nations and benefit of India from this G20 forum.

At the end of the program, the winners of the G20 pre-event student activities like essay competition, poster and quiz competition were awarded. The vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Vipin Kumar Singh. CUSB OIA members Prof. Rakesh Kumar, Dr. Sudhanshu Kumar Jha, Dr. Lakhwinder Singh, Dr. N. L. Devi and Mr. Mahesh Chawla played an important role in making the event successful.
