Dr. Anil Kumar Singh Jha, Head of the Department of Sociological Studies, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya, authored a new book titled ‘Amarnath Jha’, which is published by the Sahitya Akademi, India’s national academy of letters. This book is Maithili translation of Prof. Hetukar Jha’s book ‘Amaranath Jha’ (in English), in the series of Makers of Indian Literature, which was published in 1997 by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
Dr. Jha thanked India’s premier literary institution, Sahitya Akademi for giving him an opportunity to do this translation work. Providing details about the book, Dr. Jha informed that this book describes the travails of Dr. Amarnath Jha, who remained identified with Allahabad and its university not only as a product but as one of the chief architects who made Allahabad an important cultural and educational centre of the country.
Courageous by nature and fearless in expressing his conviction, Dr. Amarnath Jha always pursued and prescribed a path of long-term vision. Dr. Jha further informed that the son of Mahamohodhyay Dr. Sir Ganganath Jha, Dr. Amarnath Jha was a great scholar, a consummate speaker and an administrator par excellence. He was among the first recipients of the civilian honour of Padma Bhushan in 1954. Dr. Amarnath Jha was a great scholar of Sanskrit but was equally proficient in his mother tongue Maithili apart from Hindi, English, Persian, Urdu, Bangla, etc. This book will be very useful for understanding the great personality of Dr. Amarnath Jha in Maithili.
