The Department of Computer Science of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) organised a brainstorming session on the much talked-about topic of Artificial Intelligence on April 28, 2023. The session was conducted under the mentorship of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh. The session was organised with the aim to discuss the aspects related to the recently introduced M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence programme as per NEP-2020 under the guidance of the Head of Department Dr. Prabhat Ranjan.
The external AI expert speakers were Prof. T.V. Vijay Kumar, Dean of the School of Computer and Systems Sciences (Jawaharlal Nehru University), Prof. Ashutosh Kumar Singh (NIT Kurukshetra), Prof. M.P. Singh (NIT Patna), Dr. Asif Ekbal (IIT Patna) and Prof. Subhash Chandra Yadav (CU Jharkhand). Along with faculty members of Computer Science namely Dr. Jainath Yadav, Dr. Nemi Chandra Rathore, Dr. Piyush Kumar Singh, and Dr. Prabhat Ranjan (HoD), Dr. Pankaj Mishra (Dept. of Mathematics) attended the session.
After the formal inauguration Prof. T.V. Vijay Kumar spoke about Artificial Intelligence, which is an important field in Computer Science. He said that AI has got rapid popularity due to its potential to solve complex problems and automate tasks that were previously thought to be impossible or extremely difficult. He also provided some real-life examples to back-up his claim.
Prof. M.P. Singh while dispelling several AI misconceptions discussed Machine Learning, a kind of Artificial Intelligence that allows computers to learn from data without being explicitly programmed. This is extremely helpful for developing models that can adapt and improve over time, such as recommendation engines or fraud detection systems, said Prof. Singh.
Prof. Subhash Chandra Yadav explained how AI has the potential to revolutionize many areas of Computer Science and transform the way we live and work. He said its significance is only anticipated to rise as new technologies emerge and more uses are discovered.
The experts also offered their opinions about the MSc in Artificial Intelligence programme and recommended addition of new courses, such as Human Computer Interaction, Time Series Analysis & Forecasting, Cyber Security, Data Visualisation, Python Programming & AI Lab, Mathematical Foundation for AI, and Big Data. The experts suggested non-credit courses in areas like IPR, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Soft Skills. At last the students asked the questions related to the topic to the experts.
