# Anti ragging week organized in the university campus from August 12 to 18, 2023
Day 1 – Inaugural Day, 12th August, 2023
Ragging has emerged as a major problem in higher educational institutions in recent years and there are reports of its ill effects from time to time. Due to ragging, the mental balance of the students deteriorates, some students try to commit suicide due to this stress and some even die. NAAC A++ graded Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) always aims at pursuing the path of ‘Academic Excellence’ and providing a healthy environment to its students which includes proactively preventing incidents like ragging. Vice Chancellor of CUSB, Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh always remain concerned about ragging and is constantly trying to keep the campus completely anti-ragging free. Now that the new academic session is about to begin, a special anti-ragging fortnight has been organized in CUSB, which was formally inaugurated on Saturday (12 August 2023) by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh. Gaya District Judge Mr. Manoj Kumar Tiwari was present as the chief guest on this occasion, who was honored by the Vice-Chancellor.
Gaya District Judge Mr. Manoj Kumar Tiwari, the chief guest, administered the oath to the students as a mission to promote mutual harmony, safety in education, and awareness against ragging. Gaya District Judge said that the students have given a positive message through this unique effort and showed that they need a safe and peaceful environment in the field of education. While the Vice-Chancellor praised all the Faculty Heads, Heads of Departments, teachers, students for their continuous efforts to make the campus ragging free. The Vice-Chancellor said that I wish the University success in achieving its objective.
Further, an anti-ragging march was taken out by the students in the university campus, which was flagged off by the Vice-Chancellor. The anti-ragging march taken out by the students went from the hostel to Chanakya Bhawan via Aryabhatta Bhawan. Deans, heads of departments, teachers and students of various departments were present on the occasion. The program was conducted by Dean of Student Welfare Prof. Pawan Kumar Mishra and at the end Dr. Javed Ahsan, the nodal officer of the program, presented the vote of thanks.
The one-week long Anti Ragging Week came to an end on Friday, August 18, 2023 at Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) are excelling in the academic world and achieving new milestones. The aim of the sensitization programme was to increase awareness against the evils of ragging amongst students, faculty and other stakeholders. In the valedictory programme, CUSB Vice Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh was present along with DWS Prof. Pawan Kumar Mishra and Proctor Prof. Pranav Kumar, Proctor, faculty members and students of various departments. In his presidential address VC Prof. K. N. Singh emphasized on the need for a safe and peaceful environment for learning and education in institutions. He congratulated the students and faculty members for keeping CUSB ragging free and wished to continue the same in future. He instructed the University Anti Ragging Nodal Officer Dr. Jawaid Ahsan and Anti Ragging Squads of University to continue such awareness programmes throughout the year. The Vice-Chancellor distributed the prizes and appreciated the efforts and participation of students and faculty in this Anti Ragging Week. In the essay writing competition, Adya Jha won the first prize, Gautam Kumar won the second prize and Khushi Kumari won the third prize. In the poster making competition, Manovriti Sharma won the first prize, Medhavi won the second prize and Shivam Sinha won the third prize.
Earlie after the formal inauguration of valedictory session, Dr. Jawaid Ahsan, Nodal Officer Anti Ragging, presented the report of the various activities held during Anti Ragging Week. While presenting the report Dr. Ahsan said various activities involving students and teachers were organised during this week. The week began with Anti Ragging Day March on 12th August 2023. Later, there was an anti-ragging seminar and orientation for students. Few short videos related to ragging were shown to the students as prescribed by UGC. There was also a pledge against ragging in the classrooms of all the departments in university involving students. A Nukkad Natak by Jigyasa and a group on ragging was also the part of Anti Ragging Week, in which the students of the law department participated. They showed the ill-effects of ragging on newcomers and juniors, they also discussed the ways of its prevention and IPC laws against ragging. There was an essay writing competition on the topic ‘Ragging: Types, Effects and Prevention’ and poster making competition on the topic ‘Say No to Ragging’, many students participated in these competitions.
Earlier, after felicitation, Prof. Rathi Kanta Kumbhar, Chairperson of Anti Ragging Squad Campus introduced the guests. Lt. (Dr.) Pragya Gupta thanked all the guests and people involved in successfully organizing this Anti Ragging Week. Prof. Vipin Kumar Singh, Chairperson of Anti Ragging Squad Boy’s hostel, Prof. Kiran Kumari, Chairperson of Anti Ragging Squad Girl’s hostel, deans and heads of other departments, faculty members of other departments, and students were present in the programme. The programme ended with a determination to keep CUSB campus ragging free and help, guide and mentor all the students to make them feel safe here.
