Republic Day Celebration at CUSB
“ Rankings are important for credibility and getting government funds”, CUSB Vice-Chancellor
‘Saare Jahan Se Achcha Hindustan Hamara’. Be it our country, our society, our religious beliefs, our culture and traditions, our delicacies, our festivals, etc. India is best and we Indians are best in the world. That’s why ‘Saare Jahan Se Achcha Hindustan Hamara’. CUSB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Harish Chandra Singh Rathore started his Republic Day speech with these couplets. Prof. Rathore described about the glory of Indian Constitution and the rights given to the citizens in a democratic country. In light of the recent protests, the Vice-Chancellor said that we should respect our Constitution, our Parliament, institutions like Supreme Court to maintain the integrity of the country. The rights given to the people are for empowering the nation and not for mere personal gains of anyone or any group. Hence, no one should be allowed to do the misdeeds by taking wrong advantage of Indian constitution.
This is going to be my last Republic Day as the Vice-Chancellor at Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) and I will bid adieu to the University this year. My tenure is going to complete by next six months, but I will cherish the memories of this University forever. As the Vice-Chancellor I have tried my best to establish CUSB as one of the prestigious Universities of the region, and I succeeded in many fronts. Although many works needed to be done to bring the University among the top 10 institutions of the country, but I hope this achievable with combined efforts of faculty, staff and staff, said the Vice-Chancellor.
In his speech Prof. Rathore highlighted the importance of ranking for any University. He said that nowadays rankings carried out by different government as well as private agencies are very important to establish the credibility of higher educational institutions. The ranking is somehow directly proportional with funding of government, and Universities with good rank get wholesome fund to carry out research and associated works. CUSB has been graded with ‘A’ rank by NAAC in 2016, but in the next assessment we need to improve our points. In the year 2019 the University was ranked at 22nd position by India Today among 36 government funded Universities, which also needs improvement. CUSB has the potential to achieve a good ranking and I am hopeful in the coming 5 to 10 years this University will be among the top 10 Universities of India. Prof. Rathore also shared the brief report about the progress of the University and said that construction of staff quarters will commence very soon.
The republic day celebration in CUSB was marked by cultural events under the supervision of Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW) Prof. Aatish Prashar and Cultural Activities committee members namely Dr. Anindya Deb, Dr. Amrita Srivastav, Dr. Tarun Kumar Tyagi, etc. Folk dance, patriotic songs, skits, etc. were highlights of the cultural programmes. The winners of Annual Sports competition were given away awards and mementoes by VC Prof. Rathore, Registrar Col. R. K. Singh (Retd.) and DSW Prof. Prashar.
